Company Profile
Cypria Auctions, in cooperation with K Antiques & Fine Arts Ltd and the well known Athenian auctioneer Petros Vergos, successfully launched the island’s first major sale of 19th and 20th century art by Greek and Cypriot artists in December 2006.
The auctions, which are held twice a year at The Hilton, Nicosia, take place every autumn and spring. Following the momentous level of success achieved by the fourth auction in May 2008, Cypria Auctions is currently preparing to embark on its next auction, to be held on the 10th of December, 2008.
Vergos Auction House was founded in Athens, in 1989. Since then over a dozen auctions have taken place with great success, auctioning 19th and 20th century Greek painting and rare books, manuscripts and prints.
K Antiques and Fine Arts Ltd was the result of the art dealing activities of George and Ritsa Kyriacou in the late seventies, with the establishment of showrooms in London and the launching of Gallery K in Athens in 1982, which became the vehicle and outlet of K Antiques and Fine Arts Co. Ltd., registered in London the following year.
The gallery traded in a wide range of paintings, sculptures, antiques and objects d’art. In 1990, the company launched Gallery K in London with the specific purpose of showing and promoting contemporary art, in particular Greek and Cypriot art. Gallery K expanded its activities by launching Gallery K, Nicosia, in November 1999 with Mary Ioannidou which has proven to be a great success.
Cypria Auctions is not only a pioneer in showcasing Cypriot works of art that are of significant artistic value, but is also committed to introducing some of the finest Greek mainland artists. With art now being increasingly considered a serious investment, Cypria Auctions remains devoted to continuing its success in highlighting works of artistic value through a combination of its team’s rich and varied experiences and focus on careful evaluation.
Successful operations to date, including the attainment of record bids for works of art which far exceeded expectations, have facilitated the opportunity for Cypria Auctions to look towards the expansion of its business into other fields of fine art.
